The treadmill business is so difficult to pick from these days purely because of the vast, vast numbers of people involved in it today. This means having the most choice to pick from as is possible, as competition grows in the treadmill business every day.

Thankfully – Smooth Fitness 5.65 is a fantastic bargain piece of hardware. It offers you solidity, ease of set-up, space saving potential and accurate if somewhat slow computerized features. For the price, it’s one of the strongest in its range and really does have some extremely worthwhile benefits.

Made by Smooth Fitness, they have a high track record of producing durability over flashiness or anything unnecessary. What you see with the Smooth Fitness 5.65 is what you are likely to get – it won’t do anything magical, but it will help you get or keep fit.

So, what are you likely to get for your thousand?

What I like about the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill

Obviously, when you buy a new treadmill you want it to preach performance and power. As well as this, you want it to have both durability and a wide array of different features that can help make your exercise even easier to get involved in. thankfully, this Smooth Fitness 5.65 has all of the features and strengths that you would typically look for in your traditional treadmill.

For a start, it’s very easy to set-up and then put away, too. This might seem small, but too many treadmills out there take up too much space or are simply too much of a battle to get packed away – I appreciate the fact that Smooth 5.65 was so easy to put away effectively. The two stage soft drop fold on the actual treadmills makes disassembling it even easier.  Assembly is just as easy, too, as Todd at Amazon notes;

“Very happy with the fast and easy shipping! Extremely impressed with the easy assembly! The majority of the treadmill was already assembled inside the box, we just had to add the cup holders and coverings. The box was rather heavy and did require two people to move it, but assembly could be done with one person in less than 30 minutes.”

When it comes to performance, though, the Smooth Fitness 5.65 comes into its own. It’s extremely strong and can handle either walking or light running on the actual frame. This is very important, obviously, as you don’t want to pick up a treadmill that cannot handle your weight!

With fitness programs already installed, too, you can get going as soon as the device is out of the box and set up. it even has a manual program that lets you determine the speed that you will go at, allowing you to dictate your own pace. For those who are looking to use this as an active get fit tool, the hardware that comes with the treadmill can be equally as important.

From the fitness regime designer to powerful shock absorption software and an LED screen that acts as your heads up display, this is a treadmill that tries to give you all of the features and bonuses you need to make the most of your time on it. The size of the text on each screen is more than big enough, allowing you to easily read and decipher how you are getting on today.

It even comes with a water bottle holder – this might sound unimportant, but hydration during exercise is so, so important. Therefore, having this alongside you when you are exercising is a huge thing – it can help keep you going for another ten or fifteen minutes, which could be the difference.

Lastly, one of the key differences between this device and others is the noise. As “Mr.FixIt” of Amazon impressed upon here,

“The unit runs quietly & smoothly (as one would guess from a company called smooth fitness).”

The quality of the noise reduction hardware within the treadmill must be outstanding. It runs at virtually no noise and over a period of months has done just that so far. Overall, the features of the treadmill are exactly what you would be looking for.

  • Strong and can handle the majority of body weights out there
  • Can absorb a lot of punishment
  • Easy storage of your equipment like water bottles
  • Durable and easy to get going
  • Quick enough to set-up with two people
  • A variety of different settings and designs that can make it more to your style
  • Easy to pack away and store if need be

What I don’t like about the Smooth 5.65 Treadmill

Unfortunately, this device is not perfect. Like anything else out there, the Smooth Fitness 5.65 has a few issues with it. For example, the course set-up and trying to customise your own fitness plan as discussed above can take longer than the exercise itself. It seems that the hardware was concentrated on mostly, with the software taking a long time to optimize your settings and get things underway. Eeyre at Amazon sums it up best with;

“The custom course set up takes quite some time; too much for my patience level.”

So, if you don’t mind doing a little bit of extra cleaning up or something while you wait, this can be quite annoying as you sit and wait for things to correct themselves.

The only other key issue, and it’s not really something to do with the actual treadmill, is the customer support. While when they do get back to you things are fine and they give you all the help and answers that you need, they can take a while to call back. There are more than one testimonials pointing to this, with “Boookworm57” of Amazon pointing out that;

“I called Smooth’s customer service, and their answering machine promised a response within 48 hours….they called back about a week later! When they did call, they were very pleasant and helpful and immediately identified what was evidently a well-known problem.”

It’s this type of assistance that will make the product even better but if you do have any problems, even with early stages like assembly and setup, be prepared to do some waiting for the assistance that you require.

  • Slow interface on the computers side, leaving you waiting around a little too often
  • Customer support could be quicker to respond, especially in assembly stages
  • Pricey

How does it compare?

The $999 mark is quite common for treadmills, so much so that there are several teams out there who design treadmills in that price range. So, how does the Smooth 5.65 actually stack up to the others around it?

For example, the LifeSpan TR1200i  is an extremely versatile and durable treadmill that offers stronger hardware features and supports more running capabilities for people.

What the LifeSpan offers in performance improvements, however, it lacks in the ease of which it can be set up. if you are looking to conserve space and have a treadmill which is easy to manage and move, then the LifeSpan is not as good a choice.

However, it certainly matches or exceeds the Smooth Fitness 5.65 in terms of quality in performance and durability. It all depends what you need more – space or power.

Likewise, the Sole Fitness F63 model is a value model which can handle several different levels of intensity. It locks up easily and is as good at space saving than the Smooth Fitness 5.65 but in terms of sheer power, it probably falls just short. It’s still a very good treadmill, though. As well as this, the quality of software console on the F63 is arguably worse than that on the Smooth Fitness 5.65, so it’s certainly a better choice than this one.

  • Performance: - 82%
  • Ease of use - 84%
  • Warranty - 92%
  • Extras - 75%
  • Value for money - 80%

A quality treadmill that offers value for money without blowing you away or going above and beyond the call of duty. A solid buy which is worth your time, should you be looking to save a bit of money on your treadmill purchases. Get the Smooth 5.65 treadmill here.

    Thanks for sharing this review! I am also looking for a nice treadmill, I am not that demanding with specs as long as they are fully functional and long lasting.

      Hi Shauna!

      My pleasure.
      I can understand how confusing it must be when looking for a treadmill since there are SO many options out there.
      The Smooth 5.65 seems to be very user friendly and the fact that it’s quiet makes it a great choice as well.
